Miami Dolphins 2022: Can cornerback Noah Igbinoghene’s career grow into something beautiful?

Image
The Miami Dolphins held three first-round draft picks in 2020, using the first to select quarterback Tua Tagovailoa, the second to add offensive lineman Austin Jackson, and the third to pick cornerback Noah Igbinoghene. In the two seasons since being selected, Tagovailoa has appeared in 23 games, starting 21 of them, with 4,467 passing yards on 66.2 percent completions, 27 touchdowns, and 15 interceptions, for an 88.8 career passer rating. Jackson has appeared in 30 games with 28 starts, working primarily at left tackle but appearing to be in the competition for the starting right tackle position this year. Igbinoghene has appeared in 23 games, starting just three times, with 19 tackles, two passes defensed, and two fumble recoveries. All three players head into their third season – typically the season where a player establishes himself and potential turns into performance – with questions to be answered. None more so than Igbingohene. As a rookie, Igbinghene play...

Orlando Pirates reach CAF Cup final despite shock home defeat

Image
Johannesburg (AFP) – South African club Orlando Pirates reached the CAF Confederation Cup final on Sunday despite a shock 1-0 loss to Libyan visitors Al Ahly Tripoli in a semi-final second leg. Pirates built a 2-0 first-leg lead in Benghazi last Sunday and qualified 2-1 on aggregate for a second final appearance in the second-tier African competition. Seemingly in a hopeless position after the home defeat, Ahly were the better team in the return match, especially in the opening half on a cold, damp night in Soweto on the outskirts of Johannesburg. But with the match heading for a goalless stalemate, Libyan substitute Ali Abu Arqoub scored on 89 minutes to set up a tense finish, which included four minutes of added time. A second Ahly goal would have taken the semi-final to a penalty shootout, but the tired visitors never threatened to score a second time at Orlando Stadium. Pirates face Renaissance Berkane of Morocco or Tout Puissant Mazembe of the Democratic Republic of Co...

Revised complaint: DeSantis congressional redistricting plan targeted Black voters

Image
Fresh arguments filed in a federal legal challenge to Florida’s new congressional redistricting plan accuse Gov. Ron DeSantis of blatant racism in diminishing Black voters’ ability to elect candidates of their choice in North and Central Florida. In an amended complaint filed Wednesday in Common Cause of Florida v. Lee, civil rights groups allege the governor bullied the Legislature into rubber stamping his congressional district map even though he understood it violated the Fourteenth and Fifteen Amendments. “None of this was done in secret or in back rooms. Rather, the governor repeatedly made his intentions clear and employed extreme pressure tactics to fulfill those intentions,” the brief argues. Gov. Max Verstappen wins inaugural Miami Grand Prix in front of star-studded crowd

Image
The victory cut Leclerc’s lead over Verstappen to 19 points in the championship, while the Monegasque’s Ferrari teammate Carlos Sainz completed the podium. Verstappen got off to a fast start at the Hard Rock Stadium — which staged the first of two races in the United States this season — as he overtook Sainz at turn one. He then started to close the gap on Leclerc and passed his rival on lap nine — an advantage he would maintain for the remainder of the race. “It’s a very good comeback,” said Verstappen. “I didn’t even do a [practice] start, so I didn’t know what to expect in the actual start. But we had a good launch and I saw the opportunity to go around the outside [of Sainz] in turn one, so I tried. Luckily, it worked.” There was a star-studded crowd in the paddock for Miami’s first Formula One race, including Tom Brady, David Beckham and Michael Jordan, who all posed for a photo together along...

On Sunday, May 1, 2022, suspect Joshua Aaron Sayre was taken into custody at approximately 11 pm after a two-hour standoff between himself and surrounding law enforcement agencies. According to 1st Class Sergeant Will West, Post 14 Georgia State Patrol Troopers were enforcing the speed limit on Bethel Road, after they had received several calls the past few weeks. During the enforcement, a Post 14 Trooper attempted to pull over Sayre for a minor traffic violation. Instead of stopping, Sayre then ran a stop sign and began to flee the scene. The trooper then was able to perform a PIT maneuver (Pursuit Intervention Technique) on Sayre’s vehicle, causing it to overturn. Upon overturning, Sayre and a female then exited the vehicle, fleeing into a field, while Troopers commanded them to stop. Sayre fled brandishing a handgun, shooting off a few rounds as he exited. Troopers then took cover, calling for backup. With the help of fellow troopers, Sheriff Wiley Griffin, Dec...

U.S. Senate to try again on abortion rights after bombshell disclosure of draft opinion

Image
WASHINGTON — U.S. Senate Democrats on Tuesday pledged a new vote codifying the right to an abortion after publication of a draft court ruling that showed the Supreme Court on track to overturn the landmark Roe v. Wade abortion decision. Democrats, who likely won’t have the votes to advance that bill, also predicted that abortion will emerge as a major issue in the upcoming midterm elections for members of Congress. Their comments came as abortion rights supporters across the United States reeled in reaction to the disclosure of the initial draft U.S. Supreme Court opinion, led by Justice Samuel Alito and  leaked to POLITICO. While the court ruling is not final until published, the draft states that earlier abortion decisions “must be overruled.” Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a New York Democrat, said Tuesday he plans to release a new bi...
