Cape Coral residents prepare for possible floods

CAPE CORAL, Florida – With stagnant water from nightly rains remaining in many neighborhoods of Cape Coral, residents are preparing for a potential tropical system that could flood roads and strand motorists.

Scott Nally’s house on SW 16th Terrace is high enough to avoid the floods from Elsa, but just barely.

“It came halfway down my driveway, my neighbors, the whole street was flooded,” said Nally.

Just a month ago, his entire street was flooded with water, making getting in and out a challenge. Even now you can see stagnant water from recent rains.

“Always worried, especially because I have a lot of older neighbors who are difficult to move around even on good roads.” Nally added.

Cape Coral residents are preparing for another tropical storm. The city government is preparing by cleaning rain gutters and weirs from Thursday. City officials also said that when the city’s streets flood because of the rain, floods tend to recede quickly.
