The farm in southwest Florida is now accepting cryptocurrency as payment

Cryptocurrency is now accepted on a farm in southwest Florida that is believed to be up to date with the latest payment method.

On Nicole Cruz’s farm in Felda, called Circle C Farm, meat and eggs are raised in contrast to traditional factory farming.

“We are in our sixth year, we brought our eggs and chickens to the market in 2015.” Cruz said: “People want to know where they get their meat from, they want to know that the cattle are being kept and treated appropriately.”

Everything from cows and chickens to lamb, turkey and even duck. The farms’ meat is shipped to the US through their website.

Cruz wanted to make it even easier.

“We started to analyze what would make it even easier for people to have access to us?”

Their answer was cryptocurrency, a payment method that, like Bitcoin, only exists electronically.

The only difference is that it can be used worldwide.

“When you think about it, it’s really no different than going to a foreign country and accepting multiple currencies there,” said Tom Smythe, a finance professor at FGCU.

Right now, Nicole’s website accepts around 8 types of cryptocurrencies, with plans to add more.

“To the best of my knowledge, there are no other farms that do what we do and accept crypto. It’s the perfect opportunity for people, ”added Cruz.

The only catch is that the value of these digital currencies is more volatile than a regular dollar.

“You will be exposed to the ups and downs of this currency based on how quickly you decide to leave if you do decide to leave.” Added Smythe from FGCU.

U.S. House GOP would make it easier for feds to give public lands away to states

U.S. House Republicans included in the new rules for the chamber they passed this month a provision meant to make it easier for Congress to give away public lands. The provision is a fairly technical piece of the 55-page  rules package . It affects internal House accounting and requires that anytime Congress were to give any federal lands to a state, municipality or tribe, it would not be counted as a loss to the federal budget. House Republicans had an identical rule when they controlled the chamber from 2017 to 2019. Advocates and critics agree the measure would be helpful to any effort by the House to transfer federal lands to states. But they disagree about the wisdom of such giveaways. Republicans and conservative groups see states as preferable stewards of most public lands. Democratic governors press U.S. Senate to act on voting rights legislation

WASHINGTON — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and 16 other Democratic governors are urging the U.S. Senate to pass two bills that aim to protect voting rights. Both measures need 60 votes to advance under Senate rules but have been stalled by Republican opposition in the evenly divided Senate. “Without decisive action by the federal government this year to protect voters’ access to the ballot and ensure the integrity and transparency of our elections, the voices of Americans across the country, especially Americans of color, will be suppressed,” the governors wrote in a Monday  letter  to U.S. Senate leadership.
