5 players who probably won't be back next season

The Miami Dolphins will need to do some house cleaning this coming off season. Here are 5 players who may not come back in 2022

No matter how successful the second half of the season was for the Miami Dolphins, the problems in the first eight weeks were glaring. Enough that there is likely to be some house cleaning done in the upcoming off-season.

Problems seem to start at the top, so it’s unclear whether GM Chris Grier and head coach Brian Flores will make the decisions this spring. But whatever regime is in place through 2022, they will certainly have their hands full with their upcoming squad decisions.

There have been loads of overwhelming cast members for the Dolphins this season, many of whom would make the team smart. Here are five players who are unlikely to be returning to Miami for the next season:

Eric Rowe

A guy who played a key role in the success of the Miami Dolphins defense last year could become dispensable this upcoming off-season.

Safety Eric Rowe has been a starter since arriving in Miami in 2019, regularly playing between 90 and 100 percent of defensive snaps for his first two seasons. He was second to Jerome Baker in the total tackles during that period, adding three interceptions and one touchdown. Rowe has fallen out of favor this season, however. His snap percentage has dropped to an average of just 43 percent in the last seven games as both Brandon Jones and Jevon Holland increased their respective counts sharply.

With Miami appearing to be envisioning its security duo of the future, it becomes possible that we will see Rowe’s final games in a Dolphins uniform. He owes a little over $ 5 million in the next season and will be in the final year of his contract, but he would only cost the Dolphins $ 525,000 in dead-cap money for 2022. It would be a nice wage cut for the defensive backcourt, which eats up more than a quarter of the team’s total payroll, and the team would be able to make Holland their first safety option in the future.
