Tallahassee, Leon County closings, service changes for Thanksgiving

Tallahassee city
The city of Tallahassee will open on Thursday and Friday, April 25-26. November, the Thanksgiving holiday. The following are the schedule changes for the week of November 21-27 for solid waste customers living within the city limits of Tallahassee (blue week), StarMetro, the Animal Service Center and city-run community centers.
Garbage and recycling collection
During the holiday week, some household, recycling, bulky and garden waste customers will be served a day later than their regular service.
- Monday customers ► No change
- Tuesday customers ► No change
- Wednesday customers ► No change
- Thursday customers ► Friday, November 26th
- Friday customers ► Saturday, November 27th
Rubbish and recycling bins should be rolled behind the curb by 6.30 a.m. on the day of collection and returned home no later than the day after collection. Bulky items and garden waste should be parked behind the curb no earlier than the weekend before your pick-up day.

StarMetro
The city’s public transit system will change operations for the holiday. No fixed routes or dial-a-ride services will be offered on Thursday, November 25th. The following day, Friday, November 26th, StarMetro’s fixed routes will operate on a Saturday schedule and Dial-A-Ride services will operate as normal. The StarMetro call center is also open on Friday, November 27th, from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. For more information, visit Talgov.com/StarMetro or call 850-891-5200.
Animal services
The pet service center is open on Thursday and Friday, April 25-26. November, closed. Normal opening hours will resume on Saturday, November 27th, with the center open at 10 a.m. for appointments only. Customers who need more information, including photos of animals available for adoption and to report lost and found pets, can visit Talgov.com/Animals or contact the Pet Service Center at 850-891-2950. City Animal Control is only open on Thursday and Friday, April 25-26. November, for emergencies and can be reached through the Consolidated Dispatch Agency at 850-606-5800.
Community centers run by the city
Community centers operated by the City of Tallahassee Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Affairs Department are open Thursday and Friday, April 25-26. November, closed. The centers will resume normal hours of operation on Monday, November 29th.
Leon County
The following holiday closings and service changes will be made for Thanksgiving on Thursday November 25th and Family Day on Friday November 26th.
Closed Thursday, November 25th: Leon County Waste Disposal Facility and Household Items for Hazardous Waste.
Closed Thursday, November 25th and Friday, November 26th: Leon County offices, libraries, animal welfare, community centers.
Stay open: District parks and recreational facilities (parks, green spaces, campsites and boat docks).
additional Information
- The Leon County Courthouse (301 S. Monroe Street) will be closed for repairs on Wednesday, November 24th. All persons affected by this closure have been notified and have in turn notified the persons they are caring for. The courthouse will resume normal operations on Monday, November 29th, after the Thanksgiving and Family Day holidays.
- All Leon County Libraries will close on Wednesday, November 24th at 6:00 PM and return to normal hours on Saturday, November 27th at 10:00 AM.
- Leon County’s Waste Disposal Facility, Rural Waste Centers, and Domestic Hazardous Waste Center will close on Thursday, November 25th. Normal operations will resume on Friday November 26th 850-606-1800.
- For citizens whose normal collection day is during the holidays, the collection routes for municipal waste will be postponed by one day. The Waste Pro vacation schedule can be found at Wasteprousa.com. For more information, call Leon County’s Waste Management Department at 850-606-1800.
- In the event of an animal-related emergency, the service can be reached by calling the Consolidated Dispatch Agency at 850-606-5800. Leon County Animal Control encourages residents to use this service only to report dangerous or aggressive dogs, sick or injured pets, and animal cruelty. Calls from injured wildlife will be directed to the St. Francis Wildlife Association at 850-627-4151.

On the Friday after Thanksgiving, November 26th, celebrate Family Day with a special event in Railroad Square, where you can shop at participating local stores or enjoy the arts, culture, and the outdoors.
