Leon County Opens Pop-Up COVID Test Pages

  • The Eastside Branch Library, Northeast Branch Library and Fort Braden Branch Library locations will open on January 2nd, 9th and 10th.
  • At the same time, Leon County Commission Chairman Bill Proctor wishes to convene health and community leaders to identify a way forward amid the surge in cases.

Leon County is opening additional COVID testing sites to meet a surge in the number of people looking for tests for the respiratory disease.

Three pop-up sites will open across the county next week to meet demand that health officials have reported is growing due to the holiday season and the increasing prevalence of the Omicron variant of the coronavirus and the surge in infections.

In the week that ended Sunday, Leon County’s COVID cases rose to 1,048. That’s a 482.2% increase from the previous week’s 180 cases.

Those invited to a virtual meeting on Tuesday include: Mayor John Dailey, Tallahassee City Manager Reese Goad, Superintendent of Leon County Schools Rocky Hanna, Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil, and others.

Proctor is assisted by Vince Long, the Leon County’s administrative officer, as well as local health and emergency management officers.

The meeting, scheduled for Tuesday at 10 a.m., will be streamed live at www.leoncountyFL.gov/stream.

The schedule for pop-up test sites is:

Sunday January 2nd

  • Eastside Branch Library (1583 Pedrick Rd.): 9 am-1pm
  • Northeast Branch Library (5513 Thomasville Rd.): 9 a.m.-12 p.m.

Sunday January 9th

  • Northeast Branch Library (5513 Thomasville Rd.): 2-5pm

Monday January 10th

  • Fort Braden Branch Library (16327 Blountstown Hwy.): 13: 00-18: 00
