The Biggest Crimes of 2021 in NCFL

GAINESVILLE, Florida (WCJB) – Crime may have decreased in the state, but it is still happening.

Police officers across north-central Florida have worked diligently this year to solve serious crimes.

Two young girls were killed in Alachua County and two Columbia County residents were put behind bars for selling drugs to a woman who killed them.

In May, 13-year-old Delia Young was reported missing and in June, sheriff officials identified her remains.

Two sisters, Marian Williams and Valerie Young, were charged with the murder of the child.

In April, 13-year-old Maliyah Godwin was shot dead at the Majestic Oaks Apartments in Gainesville.

Prosecutors this month charged convicted felon Jason Lynady with first degree murder.

“It’s very touching and heartbreaking when it’s someone so young. We’re used to working on this type of crime, but when it’s someone that young it’s very touching and very tough, “said Art Forgey, ASO Public Information Officer.

And after a year-long investigation that began in August 2020, two Lake City residents were arrested in July for murder after selling drugs to a woman who killed them.

Christopher Jones and Rosandra Crusaw were taken to the Columbia County Detention Center without ties.

“That’s what the sheriff is committed to and wants the public to know that if you drug people and poison our citizens and they die, officer,” said Steven Khachigan.

Holding people accountable to keep our cities safe.
