Forecast: Freezing temperatures for southwest Florida

A strong cold front worked through the region overnight bringing in a frigid feel for the day with highs only in the mid 50s. Expect very breezy conditions today with gusts up to around 25 to 30 mph.

Tonight, southwest Florida will experience the coldest air in years. Overnight temperatures will fall to freezing for many locations and widespread frost is expected. Be sure to cover sensitive plants and keep pets inside. Wind chill warnings and hard freeze warnings have been posted for our area.

Wind chills will fall into the upper 20s inland and the 30s along the coast. If you have to go outside tonight or early Sunday morning, layer up and be sure to weather a hat as half of your body heat is lost if your head isn’t covered.
