Bite30 returns to showcase Orlando local eats at low prices

It’s not precisely magical, but Bite30 offers up spellbinding deals for our fair city’s foodies, featuring $33 three-course meals at more than 30 restaurants around the metro.

Now in its ninth year, the concept — an evolution from what was once Orlando Restaurant Week — became Bite30 in 2014, with a renewed focus on local restaurants says Orlando Weekly publisher Graham Jarrett, creator and executive producer of Bite30.

“We extended it to thirty days and really made it about showcasing locals producing great cuisine for locals in our community,” he said. “The promotion still offers a great value to consumers, but it’s more about residents getting into these restaurants and trying the amazing local flavors versus just hitting up a super-expensive steakhouse because it’s a deal.”

Extending the run has led to a major uptick in participation.

“It’s really exploded,” he notes. “We don’t track every sale, but we talk to the restaurants and look at webstats on Bite30.com to gauge participation. I remember being amazed that we got about 100,000 page views in the early years, but that doubled in a short time.”

Best of all, there are also more than 30 days to partake, as the program, sponsored by Publix Aprons Cooking School, runs June 1-July 10.

Bite30 is a great way to get a deal at restaurants you already know and love or (my personal favorite) an excuse to try something entirely new.

“We hear stories every year of people ‘discovering’ their new favorite restaurant through Bite30,” says Jarrett, who has several new venues on his personal list this year.

“I literally live two blocks from Osphere, but have never been, so now I have no excuse!” Hey says. “This is how it works, even places I’ve been meaning to go to for years, once they’re in Bite30, it’s just time to go. And who knows, they may end up as one of my “go-tos” if the experience is great. That definitely happened with Delaney’s Tavern a couple of years ago. I had literally never heard of it — and was a little hesitant to go because of that. Now, I love that place!”

What’s your pleasure? From ‘hood-local vibes at Baldwin Park’s Provisions & Buzz to The Pinery in the Ivanhood, seafood at Reel Fish to Spanish at Bulla, carnivorous at La Boucherie or plant curious at Hungry Pants, this list has just about all cravings covered.

For more ideas, check out the roster of participating eateries and their menus online at Bite30.com (reservations are recommended) and simply go eat. Ask for the Bite30 menu when you arrive but remember: Tax and gratuity are not included in the price.

And since you were probably going to snap a pic anyway, hit your social media posts with the #Bite30 and #PublixAprons hashtag and you’ll be automatically entered to win restaurant gift certificates.
