Naples’ Lana Love and Omar Jose Cardona battled

Naples' Lana Love and Omar Jose Cardona battled

The crowd went nuts as singers Lana Love and Omar Jose Cardona danced around each other, traded verses and hit skyscraping high notes onstage.

Even the coaches on Tuesday’s episode of “The Voice” seemed stunned after the duo performed the “Frozen II” pop-rock song “Into The Unknown.”

“I think I speak for everybody here when I say, ‘What the hell?'” coach Blake Shelton said. “How is there enough time on this show to even rehearse? That would be like after, like, an eight-month run on Broadway!”

Blind auditions: Lana Love wowed judges last week. Wait till you see her Battle Round, she says

All four coaches had nothing but great things to say about the two Florida singers in Tuesday’s battle rounds. Cardona lives in Orlando. Love is a former Naples resident who now lives in Los Angeles.

“Wow. I mean, Lana, I just love your passion, the way you move your body when you sing,” said coach John Legend. “And everyone’s right: You should be on Broadway right now. You have the voice for it.”

Then he turned to Cardona.

“Omar,” he said. “I’ve never heard anyone sing like you dude.”

This was the battle rounds, though, and only one of the Team Legend singers would get to move on to next week’s knockout rounds.

Moments before choosing the winner, Legend had these kind words to say to Cardona and Love: “Just know that both of you, it was phenomenal to watch,” he said. “And just inspiring for us, honestly.”

Then it was time to choose.

“The winner of this battle,” Legend said, “is Omar.”

That meant it was time for Love to go back home. Her run on “The Voice” ended Tuesday.

“John, I just love you,” Love told Legend after his decision. “I’ve been a fan since day one, and thank you for this opportunity.”

“Thank you,” Legend responded. “You have such a gift. You’re such a great performer.”

Despite the decision, all the judges agreed: Both singers were incredible.

“Oh my God, Lana and Omar just rocked this audience,” Legend said after choosing Omar. “Lana, this was the best vocal performance that she’s delivered.

“But there’s very few voices in the world with the range, the quality, the soul, the control that Omar has. I think Omar could definitely win ‘The Voice.’”

Love, 30, was born in Atlanta but moved to Naples when she was 12. She graduated from Gulf Coast High in 2010.

While living in Naples, she often performed musicals and other shows onstage with TheatreZone, The Naples Players, Opera Naples and more. Later, she acted Off Broadway and Off-Off Broadway musicals, and she played Ariel for a year in a Disney Cruise Line production of “The Little Mermaid.”

Love said she’d tried out before for “The Voice” but never got past the preliminary auditions. She was thinking about trying something new when the show’s producers contacted her.

“I was at a point in my career where I wanted to switch lanes and just go into production and direct,” she said. “And God did not have that planned for me (laughs).

“So I wound up auditioning for the show and it totally changed my life. And here I am.”
