INTERFERING WITH LAW ENFORCEMENT OFFICERS DURING A CIVIL DISORDER. MICHELLE: ORLANDO BUSINESS OWNERS ARE PROPOSING ALTERNATIVE SOLUTIONS TO CREATE A SAFER DOWNTOWN. THE CITY’S HOSPITALITY ALLIANCE IS RECOMMENDING A 5% SURCHARGE ON NIGHTLIFE SALES. Orlando business owners are proposing their own solutions to create a safer downtown for everyone.The city’s Hospitality Alliance is recommending a 5% surcharge on nightlife sales.The team believes that will bring in $3 million for public safety to help support the police presence in downtown . Businesses and city leaders met Thursday to continue fighting against two ordinances. One proposal would require permits for businesses to serve alcohol after midnight and pay police officers overtime. Another would put a six-month freeze on any new nightclubs.”We have hope that we can continue to discuss private-public partnerships with the city of Orlando. Today they seemed receptive and open-minded and obviously a lot of research to do, ” said Dominique Greco, founder and executive director of Orlando Hospitality Alliance. Orlando Hospitality Alliance hopes to continue discussions with city leaders before they take a final vote on the proposals in March.
