Kone and Davis Grab World Leads at Clemson Invitational

“An incredible race by Ismael. He’s worked really hard to get to this point and when you own a record in Florida State’s record book, it usually means you’re a world-class athlete,” Head Coach Bob Braman said. “Jeremiah had a great start to his season today. His mark was better than his outdoor personal bests, and we can’t wait to see his improvement throughout the season.”

The long jump was the highlight of the day for the Noles as they took four out of the top six spots. Joining Davis was Curtis Williams (7.62m) in fourth, Kyvon Tatham (7.38m) in fifth and Jaiden Rollins (7.33m) in sixth.

In the 60m dash, Taylor Banks finished fourth (6,628), and Amir Willis (6,630) finished right behind him in fifth.

Samuel Field had a great day in the mile finishing second with a time of 4:05.38. That time puts him at No. 12 on FSU’s all-time list.

On the women’s side, the 1,000m run proved to be the highlight of the day for the Noles as Yasmine Abbes (2:48.33), Suus Altorf (2:48.72) and Bieke Schipperen (2:50.29) finished second, third and fourth in the event.

Faith Banks had a solid day in the 400m dash finishing fourth with a time of 55.06.

The Noles will be back on the track tomorrow with field events starting at 11 am and running events starting at noon. Fans can once again follow along on ACCNX.

U.S. House GOP would make it easier for feds to give public lands away to states

U.S. House Republicans included in the new rules for the chamber they passed this month a provision meant to make it easier for Congress to give away public lands. The provision is a fairly technical piece of the 55-page  rules package . It affects internal House accounting and requires that anytime Congress were to give any federal lands to a state, municipality or tribe, it would not be counted as a loss to the federal budget. House Republicans had an identical rule when they controlled the chamber from 2017 to 2019. Advocates and critics agree the measure would be helpful to any effort by the House to transfer federal lands to states. But they disagree about the wisdom of such giveaways. Republicans and conservative groups see states as preferable stewards of most public lands. Democratic governors press U.S. Senate to act on voting rights legislation

WASHINGTON — Michigan Gov. Gretchen Whitmer and 16 other Democratic governors are urging the U.S. Senate to pass two bills that aim to protect voting rights. Both measures need 60 votes to advance under Senate rules but have been stalled by Republican opposition in the evenly divided Senate. “Without decisive action by the federal government this year to protect voters’ access to the ballot and ensure the integrity and transparency of our elections, the voices of Americans across the country, especially Americans of color, will be suppressed,” the governors wrote in a Monday  letter  to U.S. Senate leadership. Governors who signed the letter include Jared Polis of Colorado, Tim Walz of Minnesota, Steve Sisolak of Nevada, Phil Murphy of New Jersey, Michelle Lujan Grisham of New Mexico, Roy Cooper of North Carolina, Kate Brown of Oregon, Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania and Tony Evers of Wisconsin, among others.
