Tallahassee fast food restaurant hit in drive-by shooting

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WCTV) – An investigation is underway after a Tallahassee fast food restaurant was hit by a bullet in an apparent drive-by shooting, said a police spokesperson.

It happened Saturday night around 8:45 pm at the Burger King near the intersection of East Park Avenue and Magnolia Drive. One person was injured when a vehicle that was driving by opened fire, according to the Tallahassee Police Department. A watch commander said the person was expected to survive, but the extent of their injuries was not disclosed.

The bottom half of a window located directly in front of a table for customers had a large hole in it and shards of glass were littered below on Sunday night. The window was parallel to Magnolia Drive. The business, located in the Winn Dixie shopping center, was open for business.

The investigation is ongoing and no arrests have been made, said police.

WCTV has reached out to Burger King for comment, but has not heard back.

Concerns Grow Over Quality of Care as Investor Groups Buy Not-for-Profit Nursing Homes

Harris Meyer Shelly Olson’s mother, who has dementia, has lived at the Scandia Village nursing home in rural Sister Bay, Wisconsin, for almost five years. At first, Olson said, her mother received great care at the facility, then owned by a not-for-profit organization, the Evangelical Lutheran Good Samaritan Society. Then in 2019, Sanford Health — a not-for-profit, tax-exempt hospital system — acquired the nursing home. The covid-19 pandemic struck soon after. From then on, the facility was regularly short of staff, and residents endured long wait times and other care problems, said Olson, a registered nurse who formerly worked at the facility. Rick Scott said Tuesday that he would block any effort by the Biden administration to bring thousands of unvetted Palestinian refugees to the U.S., though there is no indication that the president intends to do so.
