‘Please remember my baby’: Mother of pregnant teen killed in Orlando reflects on daughter’s life

The trial for the teenager accused of killing a pregnant girl, and her unborn baby, is scheduled to begin in late February. Court documents show 17-year-old Lorenzo Larry pleaded not guilty to the murder of 16-year-old De’Shayla Ferguson. Back in October, detectives from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office found her body in the front yard of a house on Broken Pine Circle. She died four days after her sixteenth birthday. WESH 2 spoke exclusively with Ferguson’s mother nearly three months after her daughter’s death.Paula Davis reflected on the special moments she shared with Ferguson. She said her daughter enjoyed life and loved those around her.”My baby was funny. She’s a TikToker, a dancer. She likes to be with friends. She likes to talk. She’s goofy like me. We played around a lot. She loved “Her little brother, playing PlayStation games. She was always up for anything, anytime. She was my riding buddy. She loved going to her sister’s games. She was a big supporter of seeing her sister out there on the field,” Davis said. All of those moments ended three months ago when Ferguson was shot and killed. She was five months pregnant. Davis said she was at work when she got the devastating call.”I rushed over, and that’s what I saw, my daughter laid out on the ground. I was angry. I was hurt. I couldn’t even go and hold her. It’s just really painful. No parent should have to witness that,” she said.Davis says the loss has been rough.”I’m just starting to come to terms with everything that’s going on. I did start grief counseling. Now, I Also have a private therapist. It’s been really hard, but I’m starting to open up more and start the healing process,” she said. She’s trying to do the best she can to honor her daughter and unborn grandchild who she called “Babygirl Ferguson.”There’s a mural in Pine Hills in Ferguson’s memory.”The artists did such an amazing job.
